Seven English speaking contest winners praised (12-03-2010)

Seven winners in the 1st English Speaking Contest organized by the HCMC Department of Education and Training are praised.

On 14 March 2010, VUS held a ceremony at the Opera House to congratulate seven outstanding students winning first, second and third prizes in the first English speaking contest organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Among participating teams, VUS was the language center having the highest numbers of candidates in the final round: seven out of fourteen VUS candidates were present in the final round. VUS was also the overall winning team of the contest with two first prizes, two second prizes, one third prize and two consolation prizes in all three age groups: 6-12 years old, 13-17 years old and from 18 years and above.

First prize (6-12 years old group and 13-17 years old group): Nguyen Tran Thien Kim, Dao Minh Nguyet.

Second prize (13-17 years old group and from 18 years old and beyond): Nguyen Hang Phuong Dung, Dang Huynh Minh Tri.

Third prize (13-17 years old group): Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy

Consolation prize (6-12 years old group and from 18 years old and beyond): Quach Thi Xuan Trang, Dam Huy Phat.

These students will receive VUS awards as below:

First prize: 2 weeks studying in Singapore, 2 years studying English at VUS

Second prize: 1 netbook, 1 year studying English at VUS

Third prize: 1 netbook, 3 months studying English at VUS

Consolation prize: 1 netbook, 3 months studying English at VUS

These awards are great encouragement for students to continue to work hard and gain greater success in the future.

The contest named “Ho Chi Minh City students study and follow Uncle Ho’s instruction” was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to promote quality English training. Contestants came from English training centers under the supervision of the Department. This three-month event has become a new playground for English learners in Ho Chi Minh city to develop their skills in giving presentations, learning and doing research in English.
