PRESS RELEASE

Ho Chi Minh City, 22 July 2010

VUS AND CUNY CO-SIGN TOEFL iBT CERTIFICATES

On July 22nd, 2010, the Vietnam-USA Society English Centers solemnly held a certificate-signing ceremony with CUNY (the City University of New York), a partner in training with VUS. At the ceremony, the two parties co-signed 115 TOEFL iBT certificates for VUS learners from the 19th course.

Vietnam-USA Society English Center is the first and only school system in Vietnam to cooperate with CUNY (The City University of New York), the third largest public university in the United States with 23 schools under its control, and over 450,000 students. Accordingly, TOEFL iBT students at the Vietnam-USA Society English Centers receive TOEFL iBT certificates recognized at most international universities. Especially thanks to the partnership with CUNY, VUS is able to update its teaching methods, and create conditions for teachers to improve their qualifications and teaching quality.

Under this cooperation, CUNY visits and works with VUS on a yearly basis. During the business trip this year, the delegation consisting of CUNY professors and doctors attended the TOEFL iBT certificate co-signing ceremony and the TOEIC Bridge certificate-conferring ceremony for 529 VUS students. Also, professors and doctors of CUNY attended the 5th annual TESOL conference in English teaching, thematic workshops. They also met and exchanged experience and teaching methods with VUS teachers.

On the last TOEFL iBT test, VUS students achieved very high scores. Many students achieved a score of 100/120. Dao Quoc Cuong scored 102/120. Required for foreign students by most colleges and universities in the US, the average TOEFL iBT score is about 60, the average score of VUS students is over 70. With such significant and encouraging results, VUS students will have many opportunities to study abroad or continue their studies at universities, colleges and junior colleges in English-speaking countries worldwide.

Currently, more than 5,000 universities, colleges, and institutes worldwide are using TOEFL iBT as a criterion for admission and scholarship consideration. Each year, millions of people take the TOEFL iBT test. In 2006, VUS was the first English school system in Vietnam to introduce the TOEFL iBT program to its curriculum, only six months after the program was implemented in the US. So far, VUS has created conditions for tens of thousands of students to receive this international certificate. In particular, many VUS students have achieved the highest or nearly highest scores such as Nguyen Hang Phuong Dung TOEFL iBT 114/120, Dam Huy Phat TOEFL iBT 108/120 and more.
