VUS - paying attention to each student's progress (19-05-2010)

After over 10 years of development, the Vietnam-USA Society English Training Center (VUS) is honored to be the first ever school in the country to receive the certificate of merit for outstanding achievements in English language training from the Prime Minister of Vietnam. VUS attained this achievement by devoting special attention to each student's progress, helping them accomplish the highest academic results possible.

Offering students the best learning conditions

Prior to joining VUS, many students are unsure of how to achieve their English language goals. However, despite initial obstacles and difficulties in using English, after a period of study, VUS students recognize their self-confidence and interest in this language. To get students to that point, VUS teachers and staff employees of the entire system put in a lot of effort to create an exciting, comfortable and effective learning atmosphere for students.

At VUS, all students must take a placement test to make sure they are positioned in classes suitable to their abilities. The number of students in each class is limited so that teachers can take care of each and every student to answer their questions and closely monitor their progress.  In addition, the lessons are appropriately designed to offer students the opportunity to practice what they learn in various ways, such as drama, presentations, group work, visual media and so on. Thereby, students are enabled to fully develop the four skills of English: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

In addition, the training programs at VUS are designed in cooperation with the CUNY (The City University of New York).  CUNY is the third largest university in the United States, and has trained 12 Nobel Prize winning scientists in different disciplines. Through this relationship, VUS students have access to advanced international teaching methods to help them progress more rapidly.

Furthermore, besides having a group of over 700 skilled foreign and local teachers (including nearly 200 with Masters or PhDs) , VUS demonstrates professionalism in their management with the establishment of specialized departments like AR (Academic Research) and TQM (Total Quality Management) to maintain stability and further improve the quality of teaching.  At VUS, there is an experienced student affairs management team to provide support and care for teachers, professional staff members to provide care for students and organize extra-curricular activities, English clubs and more, to ensure all students receive good care and their progress is fully tracked while studying here.

Connection between family and school

The combination of modern facilities, international standard curricula, and dedicated and experienced teachers provides a learning environment of the highest quality for the students at VUS to develop their own abilities. In addition, VUS applies effective tools and forms of communication between the school and parents, creating peace of mind for parents who send their children to study there. Parents are regularly informed about their children’s attendance and performance. In English classes for children and teenagers, if students are absent, parents should directly inform VUS to ensure close alignment between the family and the school.

The most obvious things to reflect the quality of training at VUS as well as the progress of students are the results of the international certification exams. A few names to mention in a series of VUS students who have achieved excellent results through successful international examinations are Hang Nguyen Phuong Dung with 114/120 TOEFL iBT, the youngest contestant in Vietnam to achieve this score; Dam Huy Phat 108/120 TOEFL iBT, Nguyen Ha Nguyen Anh 180/180 TOEIC Bridge; Au Duong Tri 960/990 TOEIC; Do Trong Thanh 670/677 TOEFL, and more. Statistical figures have shown that the scores of VUS children learners are often 30% higher than their peers in Asia.

After graduation from VUS, students will get the international certificates with a solid foundation in English as a prerequisite to studying in foreign countries or working in multinational corporations. Ms. Dao Diem Quyen (alumna of HCMC Economic University), a student of VUS, is currently working for the well-recognized audit firm Price Waterhouse Coopers - One of the 10 leading auditing companies in the world.  She said: "After more than two years studying English at VUS, I am much more confident with my listening and speaking. Besides my professional capacity, good language is a factor that helped me to be officially recruited to the audit firm Price Waterhouse Coopers after 3 months probation. Not only do I have a chance to access specialized materials in English, good language skills also support me a lot when working in an international environment. "

Recently, VUS was honored with the title of the most famous brand in the Education - Training sector by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vietnam (VCCI) in collaboration with the Niesel. With a network of schools scattered throughout the city, VUS is a large-scale English Training school in Vietnam as well as all over the country with over 150 thousand students enrolling every year.
