5th Annual VUS TESOL Conference (02-07-2010)
![]() |
Welcome to the fifth Annual VUS TESOL Conference. Once again, VUS is honored to host the TESOL conference and to offer teachers opportunities to get together, to share experiences, and to initiate new teaching ideas. With the theme “Global trends and local practice in ELT: Options and Opportunities”, the conference attempts to address some of the trends and perspectives of ELT in the world and the teaching practices in Vietnam during the transition period toward global integration. This is an occasion for us to meet and discuss the practical issues facing ELT in Vietnam and to explore new teaching practices in the context of Vietnamese classrooms.
What are some alternative views of education? Do they offer options and opportunities for teachers and students? Should we look outside the box for teaching solutions? How to facilitate autonomous language learning and to make teachers’ roles more fulfilling? How to apply global trends into the Asian context? Although there are no magic formulas or easy answers to these questions, they will be examined and discussed in today’s conference.
We would like to thank the publishers who have helped sponsor this conference, all the presenters from Vietnam and abroad, and all the participants in today’s conference. We hope that this conference will rekindle your professional fire, and that it will bring changes and improvement to the English language classrooms in Vietnam.
