VUS – The path to success (18-06-2010)

In the era of interaction, excellent English is a key skill that can lead to promotions, help everyone feel more confident in their learning progress, and increase your qualifications to work in an international environment. With specially designed programs, Vietnam USA Society (VUS) is now the only unit in Ho Chi Minh City to have a complete English program for adults, helping students gain sufficient English language skills to look for scholarships or find employment in international and as well as national companies after graduation.

Establish a strong foundation

The English program for adults at Vietnam USA Society (VUS) now includes courses in English for international communication, TOELF iBT, and English for studying abroad or international study. Every course is designed to help students improve knowledge of the English language, gain sufficient English skills to study at international schools, and have enough confidence and aptitude to use English fluently at national companies or international corporations.

Unlike many other English programs, which use the same curriculum for every course, each program at VUS is specifically designed to offer ideal conditions for students to concentrate and absorb lessons effectively in the shortest time possible, based on their needs. The materials for these courses are chosen carefully, focusing on real-life topics, highlighting essential vocabulary pertaining to studying abroad and international careers, and providing necessary skills and practice for the TOELF iBT exam.

In addition to this, the program also provides students with soft skills to enable them to adapt more easily to international work and study environments. Students will acquire English language skills to use in university campus settings and social interactions, as well as study skills, such as absorbing lectures, gathering information, and writing essays.

By participating in these courses, students will not only improve English proficiency in the four key areas (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), but also become familiar with skills like writing reports, taking notes, listening to lectures, and presenting.  They will also learn skills for use in professional seminars.

Far-fletched achievement with excellent English

According to a report from the Vietnam USA Society (VUS), nearly all students who complete VUS’s many English courses for adults have sufficient proficiency to take international exams.  Many of our students commonly receive international certificates like TOEIC Bridge, TOEIC, and TOELF iBT, and many also receive scholarships to study abroad or accept employment with large Vietnamese and international cooperations. Especially for students whose aim is to study abroad, these results help learners achieve English proficiency sufficient for foreign study, and they can save a lot of money and time.

Miss Dao Diem Quyen (a former student of the Economy University), a VUS student who works for Price Waterhouse Coopers (one of the four biggest finance controlling companies in the world), said ‘After 2 years’ learning at VUS, I am more confident about my listening and speaking abilities. Beside my profession, having good foreign language has helped me get the job after 3 month internship. Not only to interact with the English professional materials, having good foreign language also helped me a lot in an international working environment.’

Dr. Christopher Minh Huỳnh, a permanent Vice President of Vietnam USA Society, also confirms: ‘Students who have graduated from VUS have enough ability to pursue study at different universities and colleges all over the world, or are confident to work in international environments.’

Not stopping at that result, Vietnam USA Society (VUS) is constantly striving to bring students a better study environment and higher results. Now, the unit has many centers spreading throughout the country, in many cities and suburbs, and has more than 700 teachers including foreign teachers and Vietnamese teachers (with more than 200 MA and PhD holders).  VUS also organizes many courses to improve teaching abilities, such as seminars and workshops to assist teachers and improve their professional abilities.

All the efforts of VUS, especially the English programs for adults, have been acknowledged by society through many awarding certificates and titles. VUS is the first English training unit to receive an award from the Prime Minister for an excellent English teaching mission. Recently, VUS had the honor of receiving the title The most famous trademark for Education and Training by the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in coordination with Niesel company. Along with the contribution to and development of education in Vietnam, VUS has also had the honor of receiving the title The super strong Trademark and ever long-lasting development.

The training program at VUS was founded based on coordination with the City University of New York – CUNY, the third largest public university in the USA that has trained 12 Nobel Prize-winners for science. Hence, students of VUS have good opportunities to interact with international modern techniques, and are able to highly achieve in study.
