VUS Joins Hands with the HCMC Department of Education in Training Teachers (16-11-2011)

On November 15th, 2011 The HCMC Department of Education and Training held an official signing ceremony with VUS at 189 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The ceremony was held to denote the agreement between the Department and VUS to work together to upgrade the teaching capacity and skills of primary school teachers of English in Ho Chi Minh City, and is in accordance with the implementation of the Government’s National Foreign Language Scheme 2020.  The objective of this course is to encourage the growth of teachers towards international standards to prepare them for the international FCE (First Certificate in English) test.

Under this partnership, VUS will be responsible for the construction of the training programs, providing teachers, arranging venues, and organizing classrooms for nearly 600 elementary school teachers of English. The HCMC Department of Education and Training will cooperate with the Department of Education and Training in other districts and their schools to create favorable time and financial conditions in order to allow teachers to participate in training courses fully and seriously to achieve the highest quality, while the project team will work closely with VUS to organize effective and high-quality training courses.The ceremony was attended by Mr. Do Quoc Anh, Director, Director of the Southern Representative Office of the Ministry of Education; Ms. Truong Thi Minh Huong, Deputy Chief of HCMC People's Committee Office; Mr. Le Van Nhung, Deputy Chief of Culture and Social Affairs; Mr. Le Hong Son, Director of HCMC Education and Training; the 2020 National Foreign Languages Project Team; Managers and Deputy Managers of the Department of Education of HCMC and other districts; and the principals of primary schools and representatives of teacher trainees of the 2011-2012 course.

Mr. Le Hong Son, the Director of the City Department of Education, said: "For the purpose of upgrading the teaching capacity of English teachers according to international standards, the Department of Education and Training has decided to choose VUS to organize the English training courses for primary school teachers in HCMC. I would like to express my gratitude to the VUS Board of Directors and teachers for your support in the education and training of HCMC to implement the National Foreign Language Scheme 2020 of the Government, by providing teacher trainees with a basic foundation in English, according to international standards in agreement with the requirements of economy and society of the city in the integration period."

On behalf of the Vietnam-USA Society English Center, Mr. Pham Tan Nghia, President and CEO, said: "With the credibility of the People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, VUS is honored to be the first unit to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training in implementing the English training programs for nearly 600 teachers of English for the city's primary schools. We believe that, with the available teaching experience and professional capabilities and the professional organizing capacity, VUS will be able to complete the program with the best results, together with the HCMC Department of Education and Training and the HCMC People’s Committee to take the leading position in implementing this decision of the Prime Minister."

In addition, in order to implement Decision No. 1.400/QĐ of the Prime Minister, dated 30/9/2008, approving the project entitled Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in the National Education System in the 2008-2020 Period, also called The National Foreign Languages 2020 Project, the City Department of Education has recently collaborated with VUS to conduct a survey to determine the English teaching capabilities of nearly 800 primary school teachers in HCM City.
