VUS rewards 7 winners of the oratorical prize (11-03-2010)

Early March 14, 2010, at the City Theater, VUS held a ceremony to reward seven students winning the first, second, third and consolation prizes at the final round of the First Eloquent English Speaking Contest organized by the Department of Education and Training.

Among the contesting units, VUS had the largest number of students in the final round (7 of a total 18 students.) VUS was also the English school system to win the largest number of prizes with two first prizes, two second prizes, one third prize and two consolation prizes in all three age groups from 6 to 12, from 13 to 17, and from 18 and over.

Nguyen Tran Thien Kim (12 years old), Dao Minh Nguyet (18 years old) have in turn won the first prizes for students in the age group from 6 to 12 years old and from 13 to 17 years old. In the group aged 13 to 17 years old and 18 years and over, Nguyen Hang Phuong Dung and Dang Huynh Minh Tri won two second prizes; Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy won the third prize for the age group from 13 to 17; two consolation prizes belonged to Quach Thi Xuan Trang (age group from 6 to 12 years) and Dam Huy Phat (aged 18 and older). The awards for the winners are as follows:

First prize: 02 weeks studying in Singapore, 02 years learning English at VUS

Second prize: 01 netbook computer, 01 year learning English at VUS

Third prize: 01 netbook computer, 03 months learning English at VUS

Consolation Prize: 01 netbook computer, 03 months learning English at VUS

This timely encouragement will help motivate them to continue to strive further in their learning path.

The English speaking contest is for students of English language centers, and is managed by the HCMC Department of Education and Training. The aim is to promote emulation movements in improving the quality of teaching and learning. The theme of the contest was "Students in the city named after Uncle Ho study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh". The competition attracted students from HCMC-based English language centers. Taking place over a period of 3 months, the English speaking contest was a new playground for students of English language centers throughout the city, helping them develop their skills in eloquent speaking, studying and researching in English.
